BOB’s hybrid chain combines the best of Bitcoin and Ethereum to create the Gateway to Bitcoin DeFi. This means that the DeFi dapps you know and love from Ethereum are secured by billions of dollars of staked Bitcoin on BOB, and fed with native BTC via the BOB BitVM bridge.
The Bitcoin security part of this hybrid equation is delivered through BOB’s integration with Babylon, which makes BOB into a BSN. This stands for Bitcoin Secured Network, or more recently Bitcoin Supercharged Network - and what BOB receives from this partnership is Bitcoin-secured fast finality, plus the foundations of a liquid staking token (LST) growth flywheel.
Bitcoin-Secured Fast Finality
BOB leverages Babylon's Bitcoin Secured Network (BSN) technology to achieve fast transaction finality backed by Bitcoin's security in order to provide faster settlement for centralized exchange integrations and third-party bridges like Chainlink CCIP and LayerZero. This will transform BOB from a Hybrid ZK Rollup into a Bitcoin-finalized Hybrid ZK Rollup.
Key benefits:
- Enhanced Security: Inherits Bitcoin's unmatched security model directly for finality of BOB, benefitting BitVM and integration partners
- Fast Finality: Achieves rapid transaction finality while maintaining Bitcoin-level security guarantees
- Modular Integration: Flexible architecture allows seamless integration without fundamental chain restructuring
- User confidence: Bitcoin-level finality for all transactions
Bitcoin Liquid Staking Token Flywheel
When live on mainnet, this native integration for Bitcoin staking will kickstart a LST growth flywheel. The more Babylon backed LSTs deposited on BOB (e.g. LBTC, xSolvBTC, uniBTC), the more transaction fees we see, of which a portion are shared back with stakers as elevated yield. This increased LST yield on BOB encourages more deposits, which means more fees, and so on.

Integration process
There are three phases of integration with Babylon, with mainnet integration to be completed by the end of this year.
- BOB Sepolia integrated with Babylon devnet ✅
- BOB Sepolia integrated with Babylon testnet ⏳
- BOB mainnet integrated with Babylon mainnet ⏳
