We are pleased to announce that BOB’s Hybrid Layer 2 has been integrated by deBridge, a high-speed cross-chain interoperability protocol that enables fast and secure transfers of assets, NFTs, and data between blockchains.

Thanks to deBridge’s Interoperability-as-a-Service (IaaS) program, assets and data from 20+ EVM and non-EVM blockchains like Solana, Berachain, Hyperliquid and Sonic can now freely move to BOB and back—unlocking new liquidity routes for Bitcoin DeFi.

Read on to learn what this means for BOB.

How deBridge expands BOB’s interoperability

deBridge’s IaaS gives BOB access to the following:

  • High-performance bridging: deBridge allows for near-instant settlement, deep liquidity, and protection against MEV and slippage. This is thanks to their intent-based design, which is powered by a network of independent validators in a 0-TVL model (zero total value locked).
  • Transfers of authenticated messages: BOB can tap into deBridge’s decentralized infrastructure to securely transmit messages across all supported chains.
  • Secure asset custody: dePort enables secure asset custody for everyone coming from the supported blockchains on deBridge. This allows projects or dApps to port tokens from any chain to enable utility on BOB.
  • Widget/API: deBridge’s widget and APIs allow BOB ecosystem projects/builders to plug in and easily bridge assets between 20+ blockchains.

Zhixi Zhang, BOB Ecosystem Lead, had this to say on today’s integration with deBridge:

“BOB as the Hybrid L2 stands as a gateway connecting BTC to EVM. The deBridge integration is a meaningful step towards building an interoperable future for Bitcoin on BOB, connecting us to 20+ thriving networks across EVM and non-EVM ecosystems. We are excited to see more intent-based solutions like deBridge and BOB Gateway enabling more builders to expand Bitcoin’s utility.”

Expanding trustless Bitcoin DeFi access

BOB’s much-anticipated BitVM bridge will be going live on mainnet in the coming months, allowing secure Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals on our Hybrid L2 without having to rely on third-party custody or multi-sig bridges. deBridge’s intents based bridging solution can then support enhanced cross chain interoperability for this BitVM-bridged-BTC, extending the reach of Bitcoin DeFi and positioning BOB as a leading trustless onramp from the Bitcoin Layer-1.

People in ecosystems connected by deBridge now also have seamless access to Bitcoin DeFi on BOB. For example a JUP holder on Solana can use deBridge to swap directly for the Lombard Bitcoin liquid staking token, LBTC, on BOB and deploy in BOB’s new Hybrid BTC vault for Bitcoin yield and potential partner airdrop points.

Intents-based synergy

Both deBridge and BOB embrace an intent-based approach to cross-chain bridging. While deBridge offers pure bridging and asset swaps between integrated chains, BOB Gateway uses the same intents based approach to allow deployment into DeFi positions on BOB direct from native Bitcoin. BOB combines swapping, staking and deployment into a single Bitcoin transaction—creating a simpler, more efficient BTC bridging experience.

Looking ahead

Today’s deBridge integration sends two clear messages: intents-based designs are the future, and taking part in Bitcoin DeFi has never been easier. So while BOB Gateway will continue to streamline the onramping of native Bitcoin into DeFi, deBridge can help BOB’s Hybrid L2 to draw more users and liquidity from other notable blockchains—bringing us one step closer to achieving our goal of becoming the home of Bitcoin DeFi.
